The Violets of March by Sarah Jio
This is a touching story that blends the past with the present - much of the story taking place in 1943. Emily Wilson visits her great-aunt Bee on Bainbridge Island, in Washington State, to help her heal from a broken marriage. While there she discovers a red velvet diary that is dated 1943. Emily soon realizes that Bainbridge Island is laced with life altering secrets that connect to her family. Sometimes the past comes back to haunt us. This is a book that will keep you guessing throughout as the secrets are slowly revealed. I would rate this book 4 stars out of 5 - in my opinion not as well written as her two later novels - The Bungalow and Blackberry Winter - which were superb. But, Sarah Jio never disappoints me and I highly recommend all of her books.
