Attica Locke is a new author for me ... this is only her second book and I really like her style of writing. She weaves two murders into the storyline that are separated by more than a century with vivid detail. The story takes place at Belle Vie Plantation where the body of a young woman is found in a shallow grave. After the civil war a slave went missing from the plantation. He left a wife and child behind. This man, Jason, was the great great great grandfather of Caren, the protagonist of the story, who is now the mangager of the plantation. The story has many twists and turns with some surprises. The middle part of the story moved slowly, but then picks up and resolves into a good ending. A good read!
