Sigrid, Frau Schroder, must survive the horrors of war in Berlin in 1943. Befriending Ericha, a young girl who is committed to helping Jews escape the persecution, Sigrid finds herself enveloped in a world of despair and constant fear as she, too, determines to join the cause by hiding and aiding Jews to flee the catchers, Jews betraying others Jews, and the Gestapo.
Sigrid, all too willing at times, allows herself to get wrapped in clandestine relationships that prove to further increase the dangerous existence of survival in war torn Germany.
A well written, suspenseful narrative.

This novel is highly suspenseful, complex and dramatic with powerful characters - a story wrapped up in survival and tragedy. The story of World War II and the Holocaust bring with it great sadness - one of the darkest periods of history.

I have this book at home, it was recommended by a friend whom I know to have fabulous taste in books. Thus far though, as far as that period in history, I have yet to read a book as good as Sarah's key by Tatiana DeRosnay

Wow...Finally finished it. Fantastic! It's not often that you get a book written about that period of history and have the story be about the average Berliner during the war. Fearful of neighbors as well as friends since one word and you can end up hauled off. Having to make decisions. Big ones. It really got me thinking, what would I do? Of course that question is a difficult one to answer honestly since the only way to REALLY know would be to be in that situation...
Still, the plight of the average citizen was an interesting plight to say the least. It was also well written. I have no complaints about this book, totally recommend it. Very Happy
